ALBUQUERQUE (KASA) – Going to the prom is virtually every young person’s dream, especially for girls.
It’s an even tougher situation when those girls are faced with living in less-fortunate circumstances, but there are a couple groups making dreams come true for a few of them.
It’s going to be a dream come true for Andrea Rivera to be able to go to the prom…
“It’s going to be wonderful because everybody’s having a good night and everybody’s just going to be having a good time and it’s going to be wonderful,” Rivera said.
Rivera lives at Casa Hermosa, a transitional living program and home for people who come from less-fortunate families.
Beyond Borders Ministries is a group working to get some of the girls in that program decked out and sent to the prom in style.
“The donations are really important. They will help us to send these girls to the prom with beautiful dresses and nice shoes and dinner out before, and we want the limo for the girls to go in style so they can feel like Cinderella going to the ball,” said Becky Harada, president of Beyond Borders Ministries.
Harada says any and every donation the group can get can make a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity happen for five young women who are looking to enjoy their youth.
“One of the girls stated at one point that she thought that this was an opportunity that had passed her by, and so this is something that they thought was not going to be part of their life. But now, they get to experience it,” Harada said.
