My spouse and I stayed here, visiting family, for seven days March 2022. Overall,, it seems an old building repurposed as a hotel. Nicer inside than its broken Ace sign would imply, but nice in an odd way (the review calling it "quirky" was correct if kind).
Good:
> Wonderful staff, always friendly and helpful
> Good sized room, open space divided by long counter into a bed side and a living-room style space.
> Location convenient to restaurants, bars, stores. Good area for walking about.
Bad:
> Parking hard to find, mostly blocks away.
> The living room has what looks like a large coffee table, but is actually a very large rectangular pillow. Useless for almost anything but taking up a lot of space. We stood it on top of one of the two sofas.
> The long counter had an LP turntable, a selection of records, and a stern "you are responsible for any damage" warning placard. Because flat space is at a premium in this room, the 20% of the counter occupied by this thing was a problem. We called the front desk and it was gone in 15 minutes (as I said above, excellent service). I took this as an indication that the market for this hotel is younger people, including those who grew up with streaming music and portable players and might enjoy experiencing this bit of old tech.
> The king-size bed had one shelf on each side, but each was a wedge of unfinished plywood less than one square foot, and one side's shelf was fully taken by a hotel clock/radio. We put that on the floor to make space for my eyeglasses.
> The bathroom had a giant, almost full-wall, mirror. Distressingly, it faced the toilet so you could watch yourself as you pee,, poop, and wipe.
> The bathtub is an old round-bottomed type. Difficult/dangerous to stand in, an issue because it also serves as a shower.
> Ice available only at the front desk (!).
> No way to warm food anywhere in the room or the hotel (!!!).
Conclusion: We won't be staying there again.
