very clean and comfortable for the price and a very convenient location!

Wonderful place to stay. Highly recommended!

Location was great and check in also very easy and efficient. Clean and nice space for 2 people. Price is fair for the location and the room.

Nic place when all you need are the basics

Only complaint is that the old school radiator did not provide any heat or seem operational within the hours it said it would be. Otherwise, it was a very nice room.

I want to say first and foremost that the staff is very quick to respond to any needs you may have or encounter. I will say the first morning there we went to take a shower and water was spraying all over from the showerhead and then it fell off. They did come and repair it later in the morning. The next day we came back from excursions and our TV and the mini fridge were not working. They had that remedied within an hour of being notified of the problem - even though it was after 9 PM. It can be noisy at the front of the building but there is nothing they can do about that. It is very cute and quaint place. We would definitely consider staying here again. The only real recommendations I can make is a fan in the room in the closet and a coffee pot in the room. I am sure many enjoy the kitchen in the basement, but it would be nice to not have to go all the way downstairs to get a cup of coffee.

Digital keypad for entry into building and room which was nice

All good but noise isolation is really bad

Clean room, helpful staff, area was safe. Room could use some upgrades but overall would stay there again

A grade C, “port in the storm” option. Bare bones, no frills, absolutely no charm whatsoever. Not a hotel I would have opted for had I known what to expect. Made reservations long distance. So very hard to modify my requirements well ahead of time. Stayed one night, forfeiting the cost of a second night, in order to relocate to a considerably more decent place at a better price. Not a place I would recommend to anyone. Live and learn.

This place offers a central location, but it feels much more like a basic hotel than a traditional 3.5/4-star hotel. Check-in is at 4 PM, and the virtual check-in process is a bit annoying since you have to upload your ID and do a face scan. There is no onsite parking, no bag storage, and no daily housekeeping. The building itself is quite old with a pull-gate elevator, narrow stairs, and a noticeable odor throughout. No AC, just a dirty box fan and a cast iron radiator for heat. The mattress was actually comfortable, though the bed squeaked, and both the blanket and hand towels had some stains. The body towels were also pretty thin. On the positive side, they provided the basic toiletries, earplugs, and a sound machine. Having access to the basement laundry room, kitchen, and seating area was a nice perk. It's also has restaurants nearby, about a 4-minute walk to convenience stores, and a 10-minute walk to the Powell BART station.

We are frequent travelers to San Francisco and wanted to try a more boutique style hotel/Room experience and to save a bit on fees as well. KASA room accommodations have never disappointed us in the past. We love the virtual check ins and communication is always great via text and email. KASA La Monarca San Francisco was a great choice for us for the location, however our experience was a 1/5 stars. We booked a NON SMOKING superior room. We checked into our room at the 4 pm timeframe and once we opened our room, we were hit with an overwhelming smell of SMOKE. Obviously this was not the greatest first impression. My husband is also highly allergic and has other health conditions . There is no A/C or heater. We were aware of the room not having an air conditioner prior to booking. There were bay windows, so we opened all the windows to try and air out the musty, smoky smell, mind you the buidling was built in 1915 and already had that old musty feeling to begin with. We left for dinner about 6 pm but could not leave the windows open to continue airing out because it had no security bars and an old fire escape, anyone could have easily entered the room from the outside or from another room, we had to shut the windows, we returned to our room 3 hours later and once again hit with the musty cigarette smell. We tried to sleep, it was very noisy from the outside traffic (no insulation) and the smell was just unbearable, we left the room at 3 AM just just drove home. Thank goodness

(Translated by Google) I stayed at the hotel a week ago and have rarely experienced a place that looks so much like the pictures. The service is fantastic, especially the young, motivated gentleman who does an outstanding job. I rarely see that kind of service, and he's always there when needed. I stayed on the 6th floor, and the room was great, although a bit noisy from the street. The co-working space and kitchen are excellent. I would love to come back, especially since it's so close to Union Square.

Nice place to stay. Quiet (for a city location) and had that older San Francisco charm. Rooms were very clean, bed was super comfortable, and no issues getting in and out of the building or the room. They have a big lounge area in the basement along with a full kitchen AND laundry facilities. I didn't have to use any of that, but it was also a nice and clean area. Will be staying again next time I'm in SF!

Simple and comfortable. Kasa was quickly responsive about unclogging the bathroom sink drain.

Nice, clean, and private rooms. Typical noise from the city but not bad. Not far from the wharf and other attractions. We will be staying here again in the future.

Everything was perfect, from the room, which was very pleasant, comfortable, and spotless, to the well-maintained and fully equipped common areas. In addition to all this, the hotel is ideally located in the heart of San Francisco, with numerous restaurants, shops, pharmacies, and public transportation nearby. A real plus for fully enjoying the city without having to travel long distances! We had an excellent stay and wouldn't hesitate to return to La Monarca by Kasa if the opportunity arises!

Our room was comfortable and had a spectacular view! The basement public area was very comfortable and contained everything in the kitchen that you’d need to prepare a quick meal. I knocked off 1 star for cleanliness for 2 reasons: the bathroom was riddled with someone else’s short ‘n curlies, especially in the tub, and there was an abandoned pot of rice in the kitchen for the entire time I was there (5pm - 11am the next day). Also that morning someone burned bacon in the basement and the fire alarm went off and there was bacon flavored smoke as high as the 6th floor. Fortunately I was leaving then, but the whole place stunk of bacon. Maybe install an air vent/filter in the kitchen?

This was my first stay at this location and second experience with Kasa, and I'm extremely impressed. The virtual check in process is quick and seamless, with easy to follow instructions. The location and price for this room were absolutely amazing! I feel like the room was larger and more well appointed than most mid-range hotel rooms I've stayed in. The sheets and towels were really nice, too, which felt like a nice little perk. Overall, I highly recommend this Kasa location if you're looking for a room in a convenient location that is relatively affordable but doesn't feel like a budget compromise.

Great location, clean and spacious all you need

Within walking distance of numerous restaurants, BART, and music venues, I had a lovely stay. Super clean with old school SF hotel vibes. I especially loved the cage elevator! Will stay again!!!

Excellent location, good facilities and easy system to use to book in

The location of the Kasa is great, very near Union Square. This is a very old building, and it shows. Our room had a very strong disinfectant/cleaning solution odor that would not go away despite our efforts to dissipate it by leaving windows open during the daytime. The property is fine if you are looking for relatively lower rental rates in a good location.

Perfect ! Thanks :)

Responsive host! The radiator was not working but they sent someone to show me where the space heater was. Bed was comfortable. They also brought me a first aid kit upon request. Thank you for a good stay!

It’s on a hill so be prepared for the walk up

Kasa’s place was well kept and offered great amenities. Host was very communicative.

For some reason I didn’t know this place didn’t have AC! However they do include a fan which helps, you can also open the windows and let the wind come in which helps as well. It wasn’t the cleanest however I did think it was vintage, and cute and had a lot of personality. The location was nice, our street didn’t get too busy so it wasn’t too loud, they include ear plugs.

The room was quiet and peaceful. The common areas were really great! I didn’t spend much time there, but they looked really cute. Would definitely stay here again.

Bad experience. I travel a lot and have checked in to multiple properties/hotels. This, by far, has been the worst. No AC (which they did not advertise) and SF was at the 80s when I landed. Then I asked them for another day extension which they did but asked me to check out of my unit at the last minute to move to another room as another guest is checking in. Packed my stuff while waiting for new room details and codes only to be told after 30 mins that I can stay in the original unit. 😄

Absolutely fantastic stay! From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. The hotel was beautiful, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, and the staff (virtual went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

Everything is good
