My stay at Kasa La Monarca was acceptable at first — the rooms are spacious, though somewhat worn and closer to hostel-style accommodation with private bathrooms.
However, my rating is entirely due to serious safety and security concerns.
This is an unmanned property, and during my stay there were unauthorised individuals sleeping in the lobby area on multiple occasions. This was not a one-off — they were present both before and after I went out for the evening.
On 18 December, while returning to the property, an aggressive unauthorised individual attempted to force entry behind me as I accessed the building. I feared for my safety and for the safety of other guests, as there is no on-site security, no staff presence, and no visible deterrent to prevent tailgating.
The individual gained access to the building and I was left shaken by the incident. Given that the communal kitchen is directly connected to the lobby and contains sharp utensils, the lack of security felt particularly alarming.
The following morning, instead of receiving support or being asked for my account of what happened, I received an email instructing me to vacate the property within one hour due to the incident. There was no phone call, no welfare check, and no attempt to understand the circumstances.
This left me stranded and forced to find emergency alternative accommodation at my own expense.
Before booking, I would strongly encourage travellers to consider whether they are comfortable staying in an unmanned property with no on-site security or staff presence, particularly when unauthorised individuals can access communal areas. My thought keeps on going back to if I were going to eat breakfast or lunch in the communal kitchen and there is a homeless unauthorised intruder in there who’s agitated. How quickly things can go wrong with the sharp knives which are easily accessible.
For peace of mind, I would recommend choosing accommodation with visible staff and proper security measures. Even if you have to pay a little more.
