10/10 Exceptional
Outstanding apartment-style stay with excellent staff and facilities
We stayed at Mint House Washington DC Downtown by Kasa for four nights, from 25 to 29 July, as a family of three combining sightseeing with business. It was our first stay with Kasa and proved to be one of the best accommodations of our entire trip.
Our fourth-floor, courtyard-facing one-bedroom apartment was exceptionally spacious, completely spotless and exactly as shown in the photographs. The enormous queen bed was extremely comfortable, and the separate bedroom provided proper privacy from the open-plan living room and kitchen, which also contained a sofa bed. Despite the central location, the apartment was very quiet and we heard no outside or neighbouring noise.
The apartment had everything we could possibly need: a fully equipped kitchen with an electric stove, microwave, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, pots, pans, utensils, crockery, cutlery, cups and glasses. Coffee and tea were provided for the carafe coffee machine and replenished whenever required. There were also separate Beko washing and drying machines inside the apartment, which were extremely useful.
The spacious bathroom had excellent water pressure, plenty of towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. There were two smart televisions, very reliable Wi-Fi and a genuinely comfortable working desk with USB-A and USB-C charging sockets, as well as further charging sockets beside the bed. The air conditioning was effective and easy to control.
The wider building felt fresh, modern and immaculately maintained. In the basement there is a well-equipped and uncrowded gym, a very pleasant communal lounge and kitchen, an additional laundry room and a meeting room.
A major strength is that this is not simply a virtual or unstaffed property. There is a clearly visible reception desk with someone present every time we passed, including at different times of day and night. Check-in was extremely easy: we completed a small amount digitally beforehand, received clear information by text and were then warmly welcomed and given key cards at reception. Armand was particularly helpful, as were the member of staff who wore a green cardigan and another reception team member whose names we unfortunately did not catch. Everyone was kind, welcoming, patient and proactive. They quickly provided extra coffee and an ironing board, and securely stored all our luggage after checkout on the final day.
The location is outstanding: approximately nine minutes on foot from the White House and Lafayette Square, 12 minutes from the Renwick Gallery and 15 minutes from the World Bank. The National Mall and Smithsonian area are also reachable by a longer but pleasant walk of around 30 minutes. We generally walked or used Lyft and did not need the Metro. Streets Market and other useful shops are within easy walking distance.
The reserved 15-minute loading area outside the property was particularly convenient when arriving by taxi and when collecting our luggage on the final day, as there was no difficulty stopping outside. There is also a parking garage directly opposite, although we did not use it and therefore cannot comment on its price or quality.
The accommodation offers the space and independence of a high-quality apartment while retaining the reassurance and personal service of a properly staffed reception. It represents very good value for central Washington and would be equally suitable for families, business travellers and longer stays. We had no complaints whatsoever and would return without hesitation.
