Quirky, hip, cool location, but,...
I’ve stayed at the Ace in LA, and in London and love the brands quirky, hipster, quasi industrial decor. Portland’s Ace has a similar charm and in a way more accessible city with phenomenal location. It is adjacent to two great restaurants, a coffeehouse and an amazing craft cocktail bar. The building, however, is old and the wood floors have not been insulated. They creak and groan and the noise transmits down to the rooms below and immediately adjacent. I had the misfortune to be under a room in which a herd of elk apparently checked in. They did seem to quiet down around 10:00pm, but it wasn’t at all restful. Sadly, I never got a good night sleep despite the comfort of the bed and the simplicity of the room. I love almost everything else about the place, but for the sound of every step on the floors. I shudder to think maybe I, too had annoyed the guest below me when I checked in and unpacked.
