Cancel your booking if you get room 101. Looks nice. Noisy as hell. They should invest in double-pane windows, blackout curtains, and a soft-close front door instead of gimmicky white noise machines in the room. I live in a downtown area so I’m accustomed to a certain amount of urban noise and light. Might be okay for one or two nights, but my 4 night stay left me feeling exhausted, frazzled, and cramped. I had to keep in mind this is only a 2-star hotel, therefore I knew amenities would be sparse. That aside, this is what I had issues with: -There were random fruit flies always in my room even though I never had any fresh produce around. -Water never stayed hot in the shower. -Front door slammed. -Loud street noise from auto and foot traffic. -Upstairs guests noise (you can hear everything on a wood floor). -Blinds didn’t close fully and a lot of light leaked in at night. -The bed or mattress sloped to the right. -No counter space, closet space, or any significant horizontal surface to set anything on. -Staff knew nothing about local attractions or recommendations. I ended up advising guests on things to do after the staff came up with zero suggestions. The only redeeming thing was that they had Davines brand soap/body products in the bathroom, which my salon uses and I use at home. However, this particular Davines line at Sonder made my skin feel itchy and prickly!

I enjoyed my stay at Sonder the Baker in San Diego. It was the night before my flight out, so a really convenient commute to the airport. The city is a bit noisy but the earplugs really helped! So comfortable, wonderful bathroom, and overall a relaxing spot.

Very cute boutique hotel! The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. My understanding it was recently remodeled. It could have used a little better lighting and a ledge at the sink for personally stuff. It was a perfect spot to rest at the end of a busy day - welcoming, comfortable and clean!

Great hotel with very nice staff. Easy to check in and store luggage. Room and bathroom are really nice and big. A few blocks away from Petco and the cool district surrounding the park. Would highly recommend

I had a great stay here. It’s in downtown San Diego, really near to some important locations. Just a few blocks away from Petco Park, and other places. It’s a cozy place, really good management, it has a small rooftop. The room it’s great, the hand washer it’s outside of the bathroom, and the installation is totally wrong, it’s really tough to wash your teeth in there. The bathroom is not private at all, if you are going alone it’s cool, but if you have some company it’s kind of weird (even if you have that trust) but in general is cool. I didn’t like the neighborhood, too many homeless and weird people around. But it’s that side of the city, I get it.

Close to destination and quiet

We went to San Diego to celebrate our anniversary and my husband’s birthday, Paris made a few very creative & sweet cards and gave us some treats! It was a great experience, I’d definitely recommend & would stay there again.

Extremely convenient location and very affordable. Unfortunately, the room got pretty hot and the AC would generate a TON of noise. The small room layout forced the AC to be right against the bed, causing the cool air to dissipate mainly into the underside of the bed.instead of cooling the room.

The staff is very friendly and the water server is convenient.

La sistemazione della camera al mattino era solo a pagamento, non ci sono cassetti ne armadio eccetto una fessura con 4 appendiabiti, il letto si trova stretto fra 3 pareti.....le foto non dicono il vero.

I travel for work 1-2 weeks a month and this is by far one of the best places I’ve stayed at. The staff is so helpful and friendly and the rooms have always exceeded my expectations for cleanliness. I always check availability here before looking elsewhere in the area.

10 stars for Sonder Stay The staff were very kind and amazingly friendly and helpful. The Sonder had everything we needed to have a great stay including coffee, water, microwave, ice etc. Watching the city night lights come on from the rooftop was the perfect way to end the day. We felt safe inside the hotel the whole time and it began to feel homey and comfortable and the staff were like seeing friends every time we came through the door. Yea it’s noisy, that comes with a city. Yes there are unhoused people, that also comes with being in a large city. Unfortunately this is true for any hotel located downtown. However I would gladly stay at the Sonder again.

Noisy

The property is located close to the Gaslamp district with all the restaurants and night life. As with other Sonder locations, easy check-in and out, has a good list of recommendations of the neighborhood and on the app. When needed, a staff member replied promptly on the chat within their app. The hand written welcome note was a very nice touch from Susie and the team!

Such a comfortable stay! Friendly workers and so clean! We will definitely be back

Bathroom door is off the rail and will not close. Faucet does not close tightly and leaks water.

Our stay was perfect for a quick night. Loved that it was self check in and codes to get into building and room! Felt very comfortable and clean in our room! Thanks again

This host is focused on instagramable interiors, but very basic needs are totally neglected. Likes: Nice interiors and nice staff at the counter Dislikes: 1. We were staying at the first floor and there were just some poor shades but no curtains. The result was that YOU COULD LITERALLY LOOK INSIDE THE ROOM FROM THE STREET. I wish they would spend 10 bucks for some curtains instead of just carying about instagram friendly furniture. 2. The room was extremely noisy due to the walls of the property being super thin. I wish they would spend some money on proper audio insulation, instead of gimmicks like white noise machine and useless earplugs. 3. The procedure for the pre-registration was just awful. First of all, they sent me messages for months to complete the pre-registration on the website. Second, I am forced to share my personal details through an url that the property sends me through some message. Third, when I called the customer service because the website was not working, they told me it was my problem and that there was no person at the counter to do the registration, which was false. And this list could go on for a while.

Room very small and hot ac doesn’t cool enough.

The only downside was not having parking available on property.

Really nice room in a beautiful historic building, kind staff, good price. I don't think the concerns about the neighborhood in the other reviews should be taken seriously. The people I saw on surrounding blocks were not dangerous or disruptive.

This place is very unique and the service is great. However, not many amenities, and somewhat lack of privacy. No curtains on the windows that are literally on the other side of the sidewalk, spaces are very tight. No on-site parking so spent some time looking for street parking, and didn't feel safe when finally parked.

This a small gem of a place in the East Village of San Diego. I loved it!

Sonder the baker was comfortable and cozy. My wife and I found the location to be in close proximity to almost everything and only a short Uber ride away if it was a little too far. (Best coffee and breakfast sandwich at the village cafe right behind the hotel). Paris, our main concierge, was such a delightful employee. We took about 7 of her recommendations to see and eat and she was on point with all of them! Unfortunately some construction was going on and if you’re an “energy feeler “ it’s almost a little creepy with the noises coming from the walls at night. The best way to describe this is your own personal on-suite in a mansion. The roof top was a great plus with electric fireplaces and great views of the city and planes flying into the airport. The only downside is that day to day cleanliness of your room is based on your upkeep.. the shower also leaks a lot into the bathroom making the floor soaking wet all the time but there’s always an abundance of extra towels in the lobby for use. Overall, staff is 5 star, overall location 4.5 star, overall stay 3.5 star.

Good stay at Sonder The Baker This was my third stay at a Sonder property after I stumbled upon the company earlier this year. In all three cities I have stayed (Savannah, Montreal, and now San Diego), the properties have had prime locations and excellent pricing. The rooms are sleek and clean, and the beds are always comfortable. Service/assistance is there if I were to need it. The Sonder model suits my needs perfectly. With the San Diego property, the rooftop space is a nice amenity.

Comfortable and Safe I entered my room and was greeted with a handwritten, personalized welcome card from Paris and her Sonder team. I asked Paris for some recommendations for my down time between scheduled events. She went the extra mile and gave me a color-coded list with several options to choose from. Thank you for helping to make my visit to San Diego a memorable one. When I return, I will certainly be staying here again.
