8/10 Very good
We had a wonderful long weekend at The Dexter - it's a beautiful facility with large, well appointed, clean rooms. We ended up being given a quasi-suite (two connecting rooms) even though we'd only reserved a King. That was great once we figured out that both rooms were ours and the door hadn't just been left open by mistake! The bar was also top notch - all the bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and very skilled at making craft cocktails. The bar is probably the highlight.
A couple things to be aware of: the hotel is currently managed by a company called "Kasa" that runs it somewhat like an Airbnb. After you book, you will be required to upload a photograph of yourself and scan your ID even if you plan to arrive when staff are on site. This is non-negotiable and I can see it making someone a little uncomfortable.
The check in and property access worked well for us, but we were told by others that people sometimes have issues if they arrive after hours since there is no hotel staff on the property after about 7pm. The bar is run by a different organization, so the bartenders and servers can't help with property/room issues.
When you book you will first be told that parking is "guaranteed", but when you do your virtual check in, it's described as "first come first serve". We were always able to get a spot in their lot, but I can see it being parked up during peak season. Plus there was some construction going on, meaning that a few places were blocked by equipment/supplies. They also don't really have an alternate place to park since a lot of the street parking is off limits over night and the lot behind them is sometimes used as a farmers' market.
While the rooms were spacious, clean, and had lovely views, the water pressure was horrible in both our showers. The rooms also don't have a lot of furniture. There's no desk/table if you want to sit somewhere other than the bed (I don't really count the bench under the TV - it's not a functional piece of furniture). Finally, they have fridges and one of our rooms had a wet bar set up, but they don't have glassware of any kind. Luckily the lobby bar will let you take glasses if you need them.
Bottom line, it's a lovely place with an amazing bar in a cute little town, but there are a couple rough edges and unexpected complications that make it more stressful than it needs to be. These are mostly due to the way it's managed by the outside organization.
