I am very disappointed with my stay at Hillsboro Resort in Deerfield Beach. This place is advertised as a four-star hotel, but it does not meet that standard at all. The first issue is that they do not disclose that there is no general parking. The only option is valet parking at 30 dollars per night, and this fee is not stated clearly during booking.
The property feels more like a motel than a hotel. My room was very small and did not look like it had been cleaned well. I even found bed bugs in the bed, which is unacceptable and incredibly disturbing. I sent customer service a picture of the bug, and they replied that they were “working on it,” but once again offered no real solution, no help, and no accountability. The front desk staff was not friendly, and customer service was basically nonexistent. No one helped with my luggage, and I had to handle everything myself. The valet staff at night was unprofessional but good charging the parking fee.
Communication with the hotel is frustrating. Everything is “virtual,” and you only receive text messages with generic responses like “I’m sorry,” but no solutions, no compensation, and no option to cancel the remaining nights. They also promote having a restaurant on-site, but nobody mentions that it has been closed permanently, so there is no restaurant available.
On top of that, the electrical outlet under my desk did not work properly while I was trying to work. Maintenance was not available at night, and I had to wait until the next day, which defeated the purpose because I needed it fixed immediately.
The only positive thing about this place is the access to the beach. Other than that, I would not recommend this hotel. My advice is to choose a well-known hotel brand because what you see in the pictures is not what you get here.
