Had the worst experience staying here. Loud neighborhood, paper thin walls, left behind items where never recovered. I tried contacting their support but they where extremely rude and unhelpful. Would never stay at any Sonder. Their service was worse than booking an Airbnb and those have been just as bad lately too. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

First off, if you’re booking with Sonder, you should know that all their locations don’t have a front desk or hotel staff on site. Personally, I’m fine with this. Hotel room itself was good. Nicely furnished, and clean. The view of the city from the back of the building was pretty nice. I was on the top floor (4th) so the nightclub noise was not actually a problem. Didn’t even need the white noise generator or earplugs. The small kitchenette was cool but the coffee maker didn’t work. No problems with internet or TV streaming. My biggest complaint centres on the hallways outside of the rooms. They need to be spruced up a bit better, and cleaned way more often. The hallways and the elevators had really sticky floors. Also maybe a big classy looking SONDER sign should be installed on the door so that people can find the doorway. The Montreal (St. Paul) location has an keypad system where you can also use the Sonder app as an access card, maybe that system should be rolled out at all of their locations. Location was great. Fifth Ave/Gaslamp has all sorts of shops/restaurants/bars to check out. City seems to be focused on keeping the area reasonably clean and safe, so I personally didn’t have any safety concerns.

Okay... It's not the worst place you can stay. But... It's not the best. You are right in the middle of the nightlife. Like you have bars and restaurants everywhere you look outside which is honestly a plus. At first I didn't like that but it was nice being able to come up as many times as I wanted to use the bathroom or change again. We got the suit room with the living area. The room itself is very spacious to be honest. The bed is a bit stiff and the sofa bed was not available but they did provide an air mattress. I am not sure if there is actual room service because there is no receptionist. You are provided with a door code and a room code. So when you reach the building you can actually miss it because there's no huge logo sign but once you get to the door you put in your key code and then enter the building. Once you enter, it's a long creepy hallway to an elevator. It almost seems like a haunted house. Take the elevator to your appropriate room floor and then there you can put another code to enter your room. The room has a kitchen area as well with two stoves to cook but with so many options outside who wants to do that. Our also had no windows except in the bedroom but it looks out a building wall lol.

I will describe it in short, the room and the agency is fine. You are just living above a club which plays EVERY day music until 2 a.m. At 6 a.m. there are a lot of trucks in front of the apartement which get rid of trash and refill the stock of the bar, they are even louder. At least the windows should be exchanged so that the noise level in the flat is strongly reduced, otherwise really not recommended...

I booked a while ago and there were very few reviews, but the price was literally half to a third of the price as other places to stay in the area. When it was time for my trip I saw all of the negative reviews, and was honestly worried, I'd come for a work conference, and was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep. I will note, I stayed Sunday night- Friday morning, I would assume the quietest nights, but I was able to sleep, the bars were a bit loud, but I put in earplugs, that were provided, and set the AC fan to ON instead of Auto, that created white noise, and slept just fine. The sheets were a little tattered, there was some wonkiness, like the end table lamps that were so large and heavy that the night stand shelf was bending, the mattress only sits about 3in off the ground, it would have been nice to have a little light in or by the closet, and one by the kitchenette area. It's definitely not for all people, it's on a busy street, in the center of the night life area of San Diego, the roads are shut down with barriers at night, in the morning the restaurant/bars are still cleaning, and doors in the hall are propped open with garbage cans, one morning there was a garbage can in the elevator, there is a serious amount of homelessness in the area, and there were some folks sleeping in the street and picking through the trash in front of the bars in the morning, but they were all pleasant, no one was panhandling. However, it's also walking distance to the convention center, trolleys, the bayfront, baseball stadium, and in the heart of the Gaslamp District. The room had a little kitchenette, free access to a laundry room, and they provided some laundry detergent pods, so it was nice to do laundry before I left, and head home with a suitcase full of clean clothes. Honestly, had the sheets not been tattered, I probably would have given it a 5 star review. Remember, other places in the area are at least double the price.

Beautiful hotel room, clean, nice amenities, but it’s currently 11PM on a Wednesday night in June and the BASS from the club downstairs is so loud I can’t even think, let alone fall asleep.

You may be tempted to stay here because of the location and the price but it comes with serious tradeoffs. First, the other reviewers are not exaggerating the noise issue. I live in the middle of a city and have stayed in nightlife districts all over the world and this was by far the most disruptive. Even if you are a heavy sleeper, there is no amount of sound cancellation that cover up the reverberations of bass until the early hours and then the crashing of trash bags and cans filled with glass until the sun rises. Second, the place is pretty filthy. The dimly lit entry hall and elevator smelled like my freshman dorm and the floor was stickier than a frat house after a rager. The room was not clean - there were dusty cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and walls and a lot of the kitchen equipment clearly had not been washed. If you're looking for the cheapest place possible in a party location and plan to be so drunk you don't care what your hotel is like, then this place will work fine. Everyone else should find something else.

Motel 6 quality hotel, there is zero sound insulation in the building. Construction was happening well into the night and I could hear every hammer which was actually the quietest aspect of whatever renovation was taking place. Avoid avoid avoid.

BEWARE!!!! website kinda glosses over the location issues for this property. It's a tiny property that has no Sonder employees on site (so you are required to checkin online and provide extensive video of yourself prior to arrival...which is pretty labor-intensive), and the space is in-between 2 nightclubs....so it's crazy loud! The non-descript door that is right on the street requires an entry code....which is fine, except after my first night, the door had been kicked in (so basically....zero security). I contacted Sonder via the app to cancel the remainder of my reservation (pre-paid for 4 nights), and was told that I was outside the cancellation window. When I explained that the room basically vibrated from the nightclub and the only form of security was destroyed during my first night.....they still refused to cancel the remainder of my reservation and refund my next 3 nights. I have filed a dispute with the credit card company....and just regret the whole ordeal. Even though they've got a slick website....JUST DON'T consider this property....you will absolutely regret it!!!

Usually can rely on every Sonder property to be amazing. Not so this time. The website may warn you of “street noise” - that is NOT an accurate description. You’ll be next to a club with a DJ who plays all night long. That’s not normal street noise, that’s a beat and blaring music directly outside your window. Not to mention that the Sonder itself is just “ok”…not nearly as good as a normal Sonder. Tiny, the decor is fine but nothing special, the bed is akin to a rock, and the bathroom is lacking a real counter or shelf. So yeah, just don’t. If you want to sleep, book elsewhere. Other Sonders are usually great, just avoid this one!

Worst hotel stay. The bed was broken and hotel was smelly like hell. There was no reception or room attendant.

I found this sonder to be in a great location but it did have its downsides. The restaurant below was very loud until about 1-2 am each night. Sonder gave you a sound machine and ear plugs but whole building was shaking during the DJ set. The internet is also very slow. Don't expect to stream or doing any meetings on the wifi.

The area is not just loud on the weekends, it is OBNOXIOUSLY loud. The sonder is on top of a nightclub and on the ONLY street that is blocked off for partygoers on the weekend. The dumpsters outside get taken every morning around 6am, which sounds like it’s right outside your window. The wifi is slower than the cell service in the area, which isn’t saying much. The space is much smaller than anticipated; however, they do make good use of that space and it is decorated nicely. It was definitely not thoroughly cleaned before our arrival though, there was a huge hairball in the coffee pot (don’t ask how, because that seems pretty darn impossible to be an accident) and the floors didn’t feel clean. The bed sheets had a small stain and a large clump of lint/hair trapped inside, leaving the mind to wonder when they had been cleaned last. The location, besides being on the loudest street possible, was great for us to get to our favorite restaurant and gym in the area and the room was nicely put together, the two reasons this hostel got a 3/5 instead of a 1/5.

All I can say is WOW!...... I'm just happy they gave me my money back. The website is a false advertisement.

The noise... they mention that noise free room cannot be guaranteed but in reality your bed will be above a nightclub with an industrial-size subwoofer. No amount of ear plugs can mask this fact. Never experienced a hotel like this in my life
