10/10 Exceptional
Kasa Lantern is a hidden gem of a hybrid apartment hotel – super discreet and chill. Basically, it's pretty much all self-service, which I actually loved, but there's always someone on site if you need help.
My (very large) “King Comfort” room was unexpected – especially in NYC where space is usually limited. I had a sitting area, a small kitchenette, and a bathtub. It’s really well put together and they even had Malin + Goetz bath products, which is a nice touch. The 'virtual concierge' via text was responsive, they always got back to me within minutes.
Now, a couple of things to keep in mind: it's truly self-service, so they don't have a front desk and can't hold luggage. I had a bit of a wait since I arrived four hours early with two big suitcases, but Starbucks next door was a lifesaver. Check-in is 4 PM, and early check-in is kind of a gamble. I was granted access half an hour early (once again, via text notification), which was nice, but it's not guaranteed. Also, I had a little power hiccup when I plugged in my iron, but found a workaround in the bathroom.
Overall, I was really happy with my stay! This place is perfect if you're looking for something unique and don't mind a bit of independence. It's a cool, low-key vibe and a great spot to call home while visiting NYC.
