8/10 Very good
Never written a review for a hotel before I checked out before, but here I am. In LA on business and needed a place downtown, I'm overjoyed I picked this place. First time here and it's probably one of my favorite hotels I've ever stayed in.
This place is just oozing with charm. The somewhat untraditional arrangement of the room is done with intention, and ends up being a very effective use of space. Plenty of room for a huge (comfortable) bed, a lounging area, and a workspace with ample power connections and lighting.
The feel of the place is an interesting combination of modern and retro, having the effect of feeling very... chic, while retaining the charm of a historic building. The building was actually the tallest in Los Angeles for a year after it was built in 1927, originally for an oil business.
Staff is super friendly, the hotel itself is quiet, comfortable, and I think I see folks with pets which suggests it's pet friendly. Wifi is snappy and free.
Location is superb! Lots of great bars and restaurants super close in any direction, and there's a small convenience store on the corner if you want to pick up snacks and drinks and such.
No coffee maker in the room takes a star away. Most people may not care, but as someone who tends to avoid human contact of any sort before being caffeinated, it's the only real negative I have.
Awesome hotel. It'll be my go-to next visit for sure.
