Quirky and charming aesthetic, but decide if that is more important than all the features and amenities of a normal hotel. It's not a bad place to stay if you are a minimalist. But this place has changed significantly over the years from when it was the Ace and it feels the new owners are cutting costs and passing that on to the customer.
The whole experience is digitized, which is pretty inconvenient. Our room wasn't one of the larger ones, which have more furniture. But for the price, and knowing how the hotel used to be, we were disappointed. The only upside is the location.
Service
- Front desk staff are not there after 8pm, so you can only do virtual check-in, which is full of errors and not easy late at night when you are sleep deprived after traveling. Plus the doors to the hotel lock after 10pm, so you better remember the code or keep your phone charged.
- No housekeeping during your stay unless you pay extra.
- Extra towels and TP are theoretically available at the font desk at all hours, but if they run out after hours, there isn't a way to get more. You'll have to wait for the following day when they are refreshed or a staff member is there. Sometimes the area they are kept in is locked.
Room
- No handle inside bathroom door of our room
- No counter or surface space inside or outside of the bathroom for toiletries (only a wooden box in the bathroom next to the claw foot tub, and a small medicine cabinet next to the sink).
- No dresser or closet in our room
- Only one nightstand, that is 1sqft and was covered with a radio, and white noise machine. So if travelling with another person, one of you is out of luck and the other has no room for anything
- Headboard was a large canvas couch pillow that I seriously wonder how is sanitized between guests. It might not be, which is gross.
- A/C turned did not work, during a 95° heat wave. The process for reporting maintenance issues is clunky and we forewent is because the duration of our stay and a tight schedule. We didn't spend much time in the room for it to be a huge deal for us. But it's inexcusable, considering so many reviews mention a/c problems after the hotel ownership changed.
- No keys or keycards- it's all codes
- No working fan in bathroom
- Due to the lack of surfaces in the room, we had to keep most of our possessions on the floor.
Please disregard reviews prior to the hotel changing! It's a different place.
Front door of hotel is not ADA compliant. There is an uneven step and no apparent ramp.
