This place was probably the worst hotel experience I've ever had. There's basically no staff, nobody at the front desk for the most part. It's all "virtual check in", which means you're supposed to go to kasa.com, pay another $17, upload photos of your ID and scan your face before you get a text with your room number, key code, etc.
I booked through Priceline and they didn't provide any of that information in my confirmation email. So, I waited about twenty minutes for the one staff person to come back with his takeout before I even knew how to check in. There was no information at the front desk, just a tablet with a message saying they'd stepped away briefly, call some number in the South Bay Area with any questions. In the hour or two I was there I saw numerous people in the lobby waiting or talking on the phone trying to figure out what to do.
After all this I got a small, cramped room with zero ventilation that smelled like a giant fart. Shared bathroom door locks were different than the room door locks and had a blank touch screen I couldn't get to turn on. The only staff member there to ask questions was a smug cretin who acted like I was the problem when there were clearly multiple people experiencing the same issues even in the short time I was there.
My advice would be to stay away from The Clyde or any other Kasa properties. Kasa is essentially a group of private equity goons buying up cool properties, such as the previous Ace Hotel, cutting costs, eliminating staff and stripping them for parts. They're the people gutting everything of value in this country for short term profit with zero concern for customers or good business practices. Do us all a favor and stay far away. This place was not even a good deal!
Imagine thinking you should run a hotel without even a person at the front desk. People often show up to their hotel tired and burnt out from traveling. Then you're supposed to go online, pay another $17, upload photos, scan your face, wait for a text, etc. It's like the DMV but worse.
Also, many of the positive reviews on here are pretty suspect. Talking about "easy check in" and "spacious rooms". Come on, it's an old hotel, it doesn't have spacious rooms. That's just silly.
Just another example of finance parasites vacuuming up anything of value and turning it into garbage. It seems to be a trend but the least we can do is not support it when we're forewarned.
