My husband and I stayed at the Baker for a week. We found the Baker to be in a great location, walkable distance to lots of fun things. The grocery store on the next block was also very convenient. The room and facilities were very clean. The hotel aesthetic was so cute. The complimentary coffee and tea and water station was excellent. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The high end toiletries were much appreciated. The common areas of the lobby, main level bathroom and rooftop were also nice features and nice places to sit, and again super clean. The staff kept everything spotless. We read all the reviews before booking and were willing to take a risk as the price point with location was unmatched. We had a room facing the street and felt like while the street was loud as motorcycles, ambulances and vehicles come through, that the noise level was consistent with standard city living and nothing more. We selected the smallest room, again to have the most budget experience, while small, it was perfect for us. Again planning to spend time basically just sleeping there. The bathroom and shower were great, nice space, nice hot water. The ear plugs and sound machine were appreciated for sleep. My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay in the future. I think if you’re ok with air bnb, boutique hotel, or hostile type accommodations this would be a perfect experience for you. If you’re looking for a commercial standard hotel room, where you are going to spend lots of time inside the room this probably would not be your best fit.

Had a good experience of stay at Sonder The Baker! Specially, I liked the blend of modern designing with classic 19th-century charming views inside. Good for the money you pay. Also, the location is close to historic Gaslamp Quarter. You will enjoy it!

Great. Clean. Restoration hardware European Boutique hotel feel. Price point for the quality and Petco San Diego area lodging market is almost unheard of. Very competitive- thank you. More advance help with parking options on face page would have been optimal (QR Code did not work for my phone). But, I made it work. Wishing Sonder the Baker continued success and I will be back. .

Everything was perfect except the parking

Nice,, clean hotel & convenient to the downtown area. The hotel rooftop and downstairs lounge fireplace were very welcoming and comfortable.

Would not stay here again I did not like the check in method. It was confusing. I like being checked in by a human not through technology. I also like the comfort of someone being present at the hotel at all times in case we need assistance

Walking around during the daytime was alright, but wouldn’t at night. It was convenient and clean - avoid staying on the first floor especially 101-103 since those are along the busy street and very loud all day and night. Only complaints about the room was there was no where to put our things besides keeping it in our suitcases. Also when you showered the entire bathroom floor turned into a puddle and it wouldn’t dry

Downtown boutique hotel in east village

Convenient location full of charming details Cozy comfort at the center of San Diego with tons of charming details. Rooftop lounge is a must visit destination at night.

Pretty close to the Bus stop and Glossary outlet store, and also warking distance with Convention centor. It's in East villege and you can see homelesses everywhere, sometimes stupid smell. Hotel staffs are very kind and with excellect hospitability. if they are not at the front desk you can ask any questions/requests via app. The room 104 which I stayed was a bit smaller and dark. Also, very humid. If you expects the stay with bright shiny sunshine, you'd better to choose the other room.

❤️ Sonder Properties I stayed in Sonder spaces in 2019/2020 and had an excellent experience. The staff were always available and helpful; I really loved the units! My stay at Sonder Baker was the same excellent customer quality and care. The room was cozy and well appointed, and there is a comfortable common area on the first floor with a coffee bar, frig, and cubby for any needed extra linens.

Not like the photo! This converted hostel was not like the photo online. The room was terribly small, you could get from the door to the bathroom and bed within 3 steps. Not a good experience. They also rushed us out of the room starting 3 mins from the actual check out time.

Just awful! The street noise made the hotel uninhabitable.

This is the loudest room I’ve ever had to sleep in. Used the white noise machine and ear plugs provided - and still was woken up many times throughout the night. Everything from cars, people talking outside, guests coming and going inside - really anything at all. Blinds are inadequate as well, so flashing lights come right through. There’s even a street light in the corner that shines directly through. I was drawn to this place because it had a unique look and affordable price. Do not let this fool you - it is cheap and noisy. This is a truly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Customer service is non-existent.

Great stay at the Sonder as always. My partner and I love staying at them because they feel like more personal hotels and have more character. Service was great and we appreciated the warm welcome from the Sonder employees. We will definitely be back!

I don't understand why this place gets bad reviews. Everything was quiet when I went, and the room was perfect size with hot water, AC, a private bathroom/shower -- all of this I got in San Diego for around $100 per night after taxes. They also have a rooftop balcony available for any guest to use with a grill, sink, mini fridge and gas heaters. I mean, I guess the walls aren't super insulated but I slept all night without being woken up. In reading the bad reviews, if you're a Karen who wants to call the cops on people for being homeless then stay at a place inside Gaslamp or something. The area is definitely safe, I stayed at an Airbnb across the street last year as well. In sitting here waiting for my crab cake breakfast to get done, two cops literally walked by doing patrols. They do the same throughout Gaslamp and the surrounding areas. If you're looking for a cost-effective place to sleep and shower with clean rooms, this is the place.

Microscopic room size. Road noise the entire night. Got literally no sleep due to the road noise out the window.

Stylish and comfy! Likes: Lovely rooms with cool design and comfy beds. Loved the “diy” system! Would stay with Sonder again.

Perfect room for two for a quick trip!

The place was quaint and very clean. Had coffee/tea and microwave available if needed. Great location for Padres game and restaurants nearby.

I loved it! Loved the concept and how easy it was. Super clean and super cute building. I was there for work for one night. It was perfect.

Honestly was sceptical of this place after seeing all the bad reviews but i was very impressed. The rooms while on the smaller side are beautifully decorated and recently renovated- very beautiful touches and a lot of character. the location is unmatched especially for the price of this place. The woman at the front desk was so helpful and friendly, wish I had gotten her name but she made the whole check in process very easy. All in all as a lovely boutique hotel in the area i was very satisfied, the people who have complained earlier need to know the hotel market and what a cost effective hotel provides. This is worth way more than 2 stars- highly recommend!

Beautiful historic stay, with a (noisy) caveat The room itself, while minimalist in furnishings and amenities, was clean and comfortable. The lobby was gorgeous and we loved the patterns and decor, give the designer a raise! We were also thankful for the water cooler and coffee station. We’d recommend any Sonder location after this experience! The only knock on the place (and by no means is this a fault on the Sonder team per se, but worth mentioning) is the external noise. Not only is the street noise basically heard at full volume (there is very little, if no sound proofing), and every little step and coin drop is enough to startle you out of a restful sleep. Even with the graciously provided earplugs jammed into my ears and white noise machine cranked to max, it still couldn’t drown out the honking, revving and shouting outside that goes into the wee hours. Just something to note for guests!
