I cannot recommend this place. The hotel is cute and quirky, and I can appreciate the history. BUT... There were a number of issues:
1. Our room was on the street, and it was hands down the noisiest room I have ever stayed in. I was up one night until 3:00 am, hearing revving cars, busses, random conversation from passerbys (which I could quote you VERBATIM), and people fighting on the sidewalk next to us. To give some perspective, when we arrived to our room, we were greeted with a white noise machine and ear plugs. They KNOW it's noisy.
2. The location is just far enough off gaslamp that you start pushing into sketchy areas. There are a couple of homeless encampments set up both above and below the hotel.
3. The room, though charming, was tiny and lacking amenities. There was little room for any of our stuff, no dresser, no counter space to work with, no mini fridge for leftover food.
4. The barn style door to the bathroom would not close all the way. When you add this to the fact the toilet is literally 2 feet or so from the edge of the bed... It's very NOT romantic, to say the least.
If you have literally anywhere else you can stay, don't choose this one.
