Affordable Affordable place to stay in San Diego. Also it is close to major trolley routes and other major attractions in the downtown area. It was the cheapest accommodation available for my business trip without compromise on quality.

I like that it was quiet and easy to get in and out of the hotel. The area was great walking distance to all restaurants and bars in the gaslamp.

Not so good, I believe it should state very clear about parking difficulties and the small space.

Enough bad experience to make me post this The room was super tiny where the Queen size bed barely fits. There wasn't even a chair nor a table in the room which I found very inconvenient for doing any work. The hanging rack was completely rusted that gave my shirts and suits big brown smear all over the place. They should really compensate me for that but there is nobody to talk to since the hotel is all unmanned and automated. There is no noise insulation in the hotel and you can hear beeping sound of every door entry which was super annoying. There were stains in the bed sheet that gave me cringe and the pillows were all super cheap and uncomforting.

cute space in a "jaw dropping" location!!! the SONDER concept is exceptional. there are so many negative opinions regarding the brand's technologically advanced and progressive form of hospitality, but in reality, IT IS THE FUTURE OF TRAVEL! seeing (and now staying) at a hotel, whose brand and concept seems to have "thrived" through some of the toughest times (COVID-19) in the hospitality industry, really says A LOT! SONDER is in an industry which, historically, has a reputation of being very "hands on" and "in person", but they have blossomed into an era of "conveniences" or "hands-free", and the ability to obtain the luxuries and pleasures that are anticipated from high-end hospitality brands! i love the idea which SONDER has brought to the hospitality industry and i look forward to watching this phenomenal brand grow and prosper for many more years to come. i can't wait for my next opportunity to stay with SONDER!

Lovely small boutique hotel near Market Street and many restaurants. Very good value for money and great communications. It has coffee, water and many of the same amenities as a hotel (but no staff at many times as per their business model). It really doesn’t matter as you can get anything at nearby stores. Overall great value, kitschy “steampunk-ish) decor. Road outside can be a little noisy on weekend evenings but is ok.

Fun time This place was beyond cute, loved the windows and the bathrooms. Like others have said, the parking can be a bit tricky but I was able to get recommendations for a lot via their app and it worked out for me. lots of fun restaurants near by, we went to Lola 55 which was fabulous, stopped by the quart yard and a few others i can't remember. didn't male use of the rooftop but certainly intend to next time!

Nice design but upkeep lacking The design was nice but that's about it. So many little issues that can be quickly resolved with a judicious walk through and some money spent updating. The location is great for a getting downtown and the price is fair. But I'd have a tough time recommending to family and friends would pay more next time for a better experience

Noisy because they didn’t remodel properly The location of this property is good and overall the property is nice. However, the company went on the cheap and did not replace the original 100 year old windows. They are single pane double hung that have been screwed shut. Therefore, the street noise if you were on the street side is almost unbearable. On the first floor, you can hear conversations of people walking by. That being said, the property itself is newly remodeled and nicely maintained. I like the concept of Sonder and will stay at other ones. But I probably won’t stay at this one again

3 big No’s No silverware in the hole Hotel! No heatiing do to the fact that aircon filter has never been cleaned before. No tablesurface to put anything! Hideous night lamps did take almost all of the only once’s available ( night stands )

Loved the location. Was like they upgraded & remodeled an old building, so was very spacious but skipped some quality details in my room.

Very good location with a big room with bathroom, but there was no dresser and only 1 suite case rack in the room. no place to accommodate our belongings Also the in the bathroom there was no space to put our toiletries roof top was nice, but had issues in order to open the door twice.

Easiest check and out, the building itself was cleaning and i like how the door to the building was locked and needed a code. It was quiet and clean. Would definitely stay again.

Small rooms but has all the essentials. Newly renovated, very cool decor. Recommend being tech savvy, this place is totally digital, no contact which was a big relief for us with covid!

San Diego East Village by Petco Ballpark - Dwntwn Beautifully renovated property. Will definitely choose Sonder accommodations world wide in the future.

The code for the roof never worked

Disappointed There were different issues that made our stay unpleseant in your hotel, such as: Different codes - Upon arriving at the hotel we could not get inside since there was a change in the entry hotel code. Thankfully a separate guest opened the door for us. Later that day I received an email from Sonder giving me the new codes. Bed - When doing the reservation I specifically order a king bed. The bed in room was queen size Floor - The floor was very sticky and dirty Noise - From the bed to the street there is less than 5 feet. I could easily hear the conversation from the people that were merely outside the window. I strongly recommend that Sonder informs this issue in its web page and simply install a double window in that room for noise reduction. Unsanitary conditions - The BIG issue/problem was the toilet. Big unsanitary and disgusting conditions since there was human excrement between the layers of the toilet. Definitively, the facilities were not cleaned making our stay a bad and scarry one.

Total scam. No parking called to get in got a guy from another country with a very heavy accent very hard to understand was wanting my credit card information

Loved it, can't wait to visit again. I loved the concept of "contactless, paperless, people less". Everything was done via the app, I got the code to enter the building and the code to the room. I had received the email about 3 days before the trip but I forgot to check in until I was at the door. Since the authentication takes a while I strated to panic but I called their customer service and a very nice lady helped me with everything and she got me checked in on the spot. After that everything was perfect. Easy to use Roku Tv, beautiful room design and modern bathroom. No complaints.

Great facility but bad location It was a wonderful place to stay, the only downside is the San Diego's downtown. It is a mad house, crazy people knocking on the doors and loud music with zooming by cars non stop all night.

The New Normal After a few months of intense searching for a modern, clean hotel with unique character and at a great cost value, I was excited to have found Sonder. Sonder is a progressive and refreshing new perspective to the out-of-date ethos of hotel hospitality of yester-years. If you’re finally in need of a space and hotel home that is about positive change, a newer and evolved vision without the artificial fluff of disillusioned advertising that falls short of expectation, Sonder will be your new home. This San Diego location is very centrally located to all the Gas Lamp District happenings. It’s a quint corner building, stylish and clean. Easy code check-in and no worries about dealing with any fickle employees. Everything is done through the app, For any reason you must communicate with a representative, you can easily do so from the app 24/7. They are always prompt and responsive. Toiletries were readily available at all times, coffee in the lobby and if you absolutely need room service or more towels, just notify the app! The rooms are small but that’s perfect for two people. This is not an”family resort” hotel. The rooms are for minimal time, sleeping and cleaning up. All the action is outside! Beds were decent but could definitely be ungraded. Water pressure in shower is great. Air conditioning worked splendid. Mostly a quiet building, with minimal guest interaction, even though it has the potential to be loud if you’re in a room close to the main street. Watch out for the Gas Lamp parking situation. Just be aware. It can be sticky. Also the neighborhood is flooded with homeless street occupants. Keep that in mind if you’re planning to be walking around. Photos of the rooms are exactly as presented. Outlets in the room are oddly placed and aren’t conducive to efficient and comfortable laptap work unfortunately. I would always come back to Sonder whenever I visit San Diego or any of their locations globally as a matter of fact. In my opinion, Sonder is the best by far! Looking forward to next time!

There is no one here to check you in and it’s in an unsafe neighborhood

Not a hotel, poor service This is not hotel, but some sort of AirBnb with remote management. Getting any kind of service response was extremely frustrating. The original room we were put in was not what we reserved, a room not much bigger than a closet. We were able to move the next day but it took a lot of time and effort on our part that took away from our vacation time. The walls, inside and out, must be paper thin - we are used to city noise but we could literally hear people talking on the sidewalk outside our room as if they were standing right next to us.

A Perfect Vacation I booked the Sonder for someone who was visiting family in downtown San Diego. It was easy for me to transfer the check-in instructions to her and she got her room just fine. She says it was so elegant -- she loved it! The location was walking distance to everywhere she needed to go. However, there unfortunately is no passenger loading zone in front and it's a busy street, so it was a bit harrowing trying to pick her up for the beach and airport. Aside from that, Sonder added a lot to an already perfect vacation.

Great place 10/10 would recommend

Choice place to stay I booked the hotel for another person and she had a fantastic time. She loved the room and the location was perfect!

Issues: parking, Room has Nats, safety and security As expected the rooms are very small, hallways and room doors are as close as your home hallway. You can hear everything as the building is obviously old and wood floors. Immediately we noticed the room was full of Nats! It wasn't a big deal I thought it was a few like 3, they never stopped! We realized they were coming in from the air-conditioner mounted on the wall. I considered finding another hotel but as our baby was asleep and we were beat by 4pm. I decided to make a trap and ordered apple cider vinegar & dish soap, i had it delivered to the hotel with our groceries. Placed a few cups around the room with the solution- in an attempt to get rid of them. There were just so many! This was quite frustrating. Also, as the few reviews state Parking is tough down town. You need drive a few blocks to find a parking lot -keep in mind its an open lot on a corner, very busy roads and a lot of homeless people. Anyone can walk up to your car, no security. Lastly the rooms do not have Door Reinforcement Locks, a simple knob lock from the inside.

clean, and private I had a great time in this place, fist time using it. it has a Good location, it is very private and very clean. It has a nice rooftop where you can enjoy the city's skyline. I recommend this place to anyone who want to have a great time in San Diego.

The room is nice and clean but the property is not good, no parking available , the location seem not so safe, too many homeless and the area smell so bad .

Okay stay There’s no parking- only lots about a block away. This place used to be a hostel so it felt like we were staying in a dorm rather than a hotel. You can hear everything going on outside and around you while you are in your room. The room has very very little walking space. We stayed in a one bedroom king bed and there was no closet. The look of the hotel and the shower was nice but the stay wasn’t very comfortable. The AC and Tv worked well. The king bed felt like a queen and the sheets as well as comforter had several stains on them. Overall this place is nice if you’re staying for a very short amount of time because of the price however the stay wasn’t very comfortable. Be careful of the bathroom door it is a huge wood slider door and gets stuck if you pull too far to the left from the inside (it also does not cover the whole door way).

Really innovative approach, great design despite smsll rooms (1907 property). You need to.spend more on bedding. I travel a lot, I'm positive that I have slept on stained matresses, however your sheets were so thin I could SEE the stains. As well done as everything else was that screamed "seedy motel". Also felt very low-end. Nicer sheets would leave such a better overall impression. Enough of a turn-off that I wont be back. Homeless problem is also out of hand but that's not your problem.

Better than expected I booked this before reading the reviews then I was worried. Once I was there, I was pleasantly surprised. My room was big, showers were amazing. Rooftop closes at nine which kinda sucked, but the area itself is super nice. You do have to check in and register first on your phone to get access codes to the building and room. Some people did not know this and were on the phone with customer service. There is no front desk person so you have to make sure you get this done before trying to walk in. Overall, it is a great small stay right in the middle of everything. I was four blocks down from the Padres stadium and all the bars and restaurants in the area. Of course, you are in the middle of downtown and it get noisy and there are homeless people around but that just how most down towns are. There are not many big cities that do not have these things in their downtowns. So many places to eat and drink within 10 minute walks. The noise one of two downfalls but they do offer to give you noise cancelling earbuds if you request them. The other is parking but there are paid parking lot all around. We paid 10 bucks a night right around the corner. Just dont leave anything vaulable in plain sight. There was no cable tv in the room but it does have a roku smart tv so you can log into your favorite shows. I had a great stay and this was a wonderful place to stay.

Clean and noisy This hotel room was large, spacious and appeared to be beautifully redone very recently. The private bathroom appeared brand new. Check-in was automated and very easy. The location was just a little out of the way and took a bit of a walk to get to the gaslamp district. It had a large King bed that was very comfortable. As large as it was, there was no closet or dresser so we had to live out of our bags for our entire stay. An arrmoire or something would have been appreciated so I could hang my clothes on something other than a doorknob. For some reason, the metal rods that hold the bed up stuck out about 4" on one side of the bed, which I hit with my foot once. Finally, the room we had was on the ground floor, and had very thin single-paned windows with no sound insulation at all. If people walked by you could hear everything said. During the night and beginning early in the morning there is traffic passing by including honking cars, trucks and motorcycles making it very difficult to get to sleep and to stay sleeping in the morning. If midnight to 5:30 or 6 am is your thing, no-problem.

Although phone staff is friendly and mostly accommodating, you need to be aware of a few things before staying. First, there is no closet. Only 1 stool. Only 1 small trash can (by the toilet) for the whole room. Zero cups or glasses. Glasses were brought *after calling*. Trash can was brought *after calling*. The “closet”, as it were, consisted of 4 hangers on a bar that was approximately 8in wide x 3in deep. We were there for a wedding, so zero space to hang a gown or suit. Mini fridge was right below the “closet”, so even if there was space to hang a gown (or pants), neither could actually hang all of the way down. When we checked in, remote for tv was broken. Called. Again. They said they would get one. NEXT DAY, we called again for remote. Finally got it, but not until 2pm-ish, when we were starting to get ready for wedding event. So no useable tv until late on 2nd evening. Phone people were friendly. Person who delivered tv remote and trash can and hangers and cups was friendly. But that was a long wait for basic amenities, not counting the phone waiting time(s). Having said that, after the initial, shock, and the deliveries, we enjoyed our stay. It is clean. Location in downtown San Diego was very good.

Good place, bad noise Wonderful place. Well kept, modern, shower was lovely. The issue I had was with the extreme level of road noise. Despite the disclaimer, earplugs, and a white noise machine the room was still so loud that we had trouble sleeping and were woken up throughout the night.

Rooms are wonderful. Perfectly clean, everything is in working order, sheets were nice and beds were comfortable. The rooftop was wonderful although it was a little annoying that it closed at 9 PM. BE WARNED: The “road noise” that was mentioned in the disclosed in the listing is actually very loud. We heard multiple arguments a night and loud cars and motorcycles that would pass by and wake us despite earplugs and a white noise machine. Noise was so bad in fact that we ended up staying at a nicer hotel the last night just for a decent night sleep. That is the only reason why this property isn’t getting a higher rating because it is a really nice place besides from the excessive noise.
