10/10 Exceptional
Fantastic hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay at Kasa San Diego and would definitely stay here again.
The location is fantastic. It’s just a couple of blocks from Little Italy and we found it to be very central to everything we wanted to do but was very quiet. There’s a Starbucks right across the street and an egg (breakfast) restaurant in the building. Parking was $50, which unfortunately seems pretty standard for San Diego hotels.
The cleanliness was probably one of the things that impressed us the most. The property was spotless and not just our room, but the common areas as well. The building is a little different from a typical hotel because most of it is residential, with two floors being used for hotel/Airbnb accommodations. There’s no traditional concierge or front desk, as you’re given a code to get into the building and your room. Honestly, we didn’t miss having a front desk. Anytime we needed anything, we just texted Kasa and they were very responsive.
Our room was beautiful. It was modern, very clean and well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed including a full sized huge fridge and regular stove and microwave, the bathroom was great and the bed was extremely comfortable. Shampoo and conditioner and shower gel were good quality.
The one downside was the pull-out sofa bed. I had actually read other Tripadvisor reviews mentioning this before we stayed, and unfortunately they were right. It had quite a few dips and bumps and was not very comfortable for a large adult. My son is 22 and didn’t complain too much, but I know he didn’t get a particularly good sleep on it. When we contacted Kasa, they were very accommodating and immediately brought us an extra duvet and a mattress topper. That helped a BIT, but a better pull-out couch would definitely be an improvement on an already excellent room. I think the existing pull out would probably be fine for children.
The amenities were much better than we expected. The whole property had a really nice chill vibe and never felt like one of those generic hotels where the pool is packed with kids. It was beautifully furnished and almost felt like a resort with heated cabanas. There’s a pool, hot tub, sauna, massage chair and gym and many nice seating sure as with gas fireplaces. There was also a doggy area!
My son actually said the gym was better than any hotel gym he’s seen before and it never seemed busy, which may have been one of the reasons he convinced us to go to Kasa in the first place! 😂
Another huge bonus, especially if you’re staying for a week, is having a full-size washer and dryer in the unit. Being able to do laundry whenever you want is incredibly convenient, especially when traveling with a family. A Few laundry pods are included so bring dryer sheets.
If I knew friends were going to San Diego, I would definitely recommend Kasa to them. If you don’t mind not having traditional hotel services like a front desk and daily housekeeping, I would choose this over many of the more generic hotels, especially for a longer stay.
