8/10 Very good
I was a little skeptical of staying at this small, self-service hotel, but, overall, I had a nice stay. My overall score is 3.5, rounding to 4.
Pros: Great location right in the heart of the Castro, close to bars and restaurants. You get a very neighborhood experience. Cute, well-appointed and modern rooms. Friendly/helpful staff (as experienced through the app and text messaging). Comfortable bed and good shower.
Cons: The rooms are tiny: even my "mini suite" felt crowded. The bed, especially, in this room is tucked into a little alcove where you have to get in and out from the foot of the bed. There's a little shelf along one wall to charge your devices and for whatever you need bedside, but the shelf itself is so tiny. A little longer would have been welcome. Also, the rooms are loud, not so much from the outside in my experience, but I could hear sounds from above, water running through the pipes, etc. The staff I interacted with my text were helpful and courteous: it just felt like a good amount of effort to coordinate a cleaning during my stay and to arrange a late checkout.
Would I stay here again? I'm not sure; the location can't be beat. There are almost no hotels in SF other than downtown (which these days is dead), but the small rooms and noise at the price point would give me pause.
