8/10 Very good
The Maverick has good bones and charm! High ceilings and huge windows in each room but there are a few minor design choices that felt neglected.
Pros:
Easy check in, good customer service (despite the lack of a check in desk), comfy beds, nice interior design, great lighting, good location.
Cons: They offer black out curtains on all of the windows but not a white curtain option that allows light in but provides some privacy. So that meant when using the restroom in the middle of the day you had to do so with the black out curtain down and lights on. Another thing is that for the coffee station they offer sugar and cream but no utensil or wooden stick to stir. The lighting is overhead light and two reading lamps near the bed. I think that having a lamp somewhere in the room would fit the decor and also provide another light source that isn’t bright overhead light or reading lamps. Lastly they placed the cups in our room directly on the counter instead of on a paper coaster which just feels more clean than drinking from a glass that was placed directly on a bathroom sink.
Lastly:
The hotel is cool it just felt a little dead due to the lack of activity and presence of staff. The bar was always empty (no staff or way to order), nice seating areas with no one sitting in them, a cool vintage gym rec room but no activity. I think this place would improve by actually having a bar, hosting dance nights or roller skating nights in the rec room. The ACE hotel was a cool, vibrant, and yet cozy hotel and it would be nice if maverick tried to capture some of that energy.
