Great view, but no service
When we arrived, we were surprised to find no reception. I would have expected that from a 5-star hotel. (We'd previously stayed in several mid-range hotels with only 3 stars, and all of them had a staffed reception.) We had trouble checking in online. Since we had only booked WiFi in Germany, but not phone calls or text messages for the US, we had to go to the reception desk of the Santander building, where the lady lent us her phone so we could talk to the Mint House service. This worked just as the employee told me.
I had to pay another $200 upon check-in; I hope it will be refunded soon, as the room was, of course, prepaid.
In the room, which was very modern and nicely furnished, we unfortunately discovered that the bathroom door squeaked so loudly that it woke my daughter up when I needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Additionally, the water in the shower was lukewarm at best, making washing your hair a torture.
The windowsills hadn't been dusted for weeks, and the room hadn't been cleaned in the 4 days/3 nights (the beds weren't made, the trash wasn't emptied). Given this, I don't understand why the hotel has 5 stars. The 3-star hotels we've stayed in before had daily housekeeping, and the amenities were just as good (refrigerator, microwave, free coffee and tea, and a box-spring bed).
The day before our departure, there was actually a young man at the "reception" desk. I told him about the squeaking door and the lack of hot water, and I told him that a few drops of oil would surely fix it. He was busy typing on the computer, but didn't even look at us. When we returned to the room in the evening, nothing had happened; the door was still squeaking.
Conclusion: The view from the 50th floor gets 12 out of 5 stars, but the service was worth 3 stars at most.
