I was visiting a friend staying there for a tennis tournament over the weekend and was surprised and impressed. It used to be really trashy rundown building and now it’s quite stunning. The rooms are gorgeous, dark wood, with light or white accents, beautiful bathroom and comfortable big beds!

Small rooms on a noisy road, but very clean, comfortable bed, high quality shower, and friendly staff.

We loved Sonder and Baker. I downloaded the app after staying to hopefully stay at their other locations later.

Enjoyed our stay at Sonder The Baker. It can be a little noisy at night if your room is located on the front. The room is small but cozy and with good amenities. Their are complimentary toiletries and hot drinks in the foyer. There is an amazing rooftop area with BBQ facilities, fire pits and garden games available all free of charge. There is also access to a microwave in the lobby. On the day of checkin and checkout there are self service lockers to leave luggage before and after check-in / check-out. We had some issues with the shower water not getting hot but used the Sonder app live chat to speak with the team to resolve the issue. The live chat and app was fantastic for aiding checkin and getting in touch with the hotel team. Would recommend for a plussed budget stay in fantastic San Diego.

Room we stayed at was super tight. Non-existing staff. Loud at night with all the cars passing by and people talking as they stroll through. No space to put any skincare items. Rooms are kind of musty. Has an odd smell when entering the room. Checking in is a hassle. You basically have to do everything yourself. Checking in is done through a link. I only saw 1 staff from 1 out of the 3 nights we stayed at. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Really fancy and nice place!! Likes: Fancy roof top with fire places and bbq place! Free water, tea and coffee, nice room! Dislikes: There is no real door to your bathroom..

DO NOT RENT A ROOM AT THIS PLACE. Save yourself the headache and the nightmare that it will leave you in. If you want the worst experience possible staying in downtown san diego, then by all means, go ahead and stay here. The rooms are insanely small. You will hear every single noise that your neighboring rooms (above, below, to the sides) make. You won't be able to sleep at all at night. When telling the staff about the issue, they will offer you ear plugs. When you've had enough and cannot bare to stay another minute in their building, they will deny you a refund and only offer you a credit to stay on a different date. As if things would ever be better on a different night. This shouldn't even be considered a hotel, it's more like a massive old shaggy house that got converted into multiple rooms. It's DREADFUL!

Nice amenities but the designers choose form over function in several areas. Everything looks nice and is high quality but placement of several things lacked common sense. For example the placement of the dispensers in the shower are inconvenient and in the way. Also I had to unplug the lamp to use the usb. There’s nowhere to sit, tv in a bad place and pigeons are loud and messy. The staff was great and helpful. They went out of their way and were very informative.

Quick overnight The room was very nice and comfortable. The furnishings were very nice and the shower was amazing! They have lockers to hold your belongs behold or after you check out, which was very convenient on our last day!

The Sonder at Baker is the best quality for the dollar given the prime location here. Building is old but redone well. Rooms are a bit small for a couple, but again, comes at a cheap price so I can't complain that I saved hundred by avoiding the chains during a conference week. Their customer service was also great in resolving a booking issue. I would stay at the Sonder again if I pass through SD.

If you plan on doing any sleeping do not stay here! Terrible place to stay, if you planning on sleeping at all do not stay here!! The rooms are literally on the street and there is zero noise reduction, you may as well put a sleeping bag on the sidewalk. Dogs, sirens, loud cars, you can even hear every word and detail of conversation as pedestrians walk by (and drunk people later in the early morning). They provide you with ear plugs as a “solution”, to little effect however. They also have no staff onsite, and no manager to speak to - the best you will get is that “a manager will contact you within 24-72 hours” from the out of country call center.

Great concept, nice and clean rooms but location wasn’t great & either was the outside noise Likes: The rooms were very cute and it was nice and clean. We liked the security on the doors too which meant we didn’t need a key! Dislikes: This location is right towards the end of the touristy area so we did have to walk A LOT to get where we wanted to go, or Uber. Also, being on the side of the walkways the NOISE was terrible at night! We are usually not fussy with a bit of outside noise but the horns & sirens made it really difficult to sleep some nights. They do provide ear plugs which is good and they are meant to provide a white noise machine but our room didn’t have one. Also, no elevator which was a little annoying but we made do!

Cool old style place on 10th between G and F streets. Stayed one night, then my work got extended so I stayed a second night. Price for the room was the best I could find. And I got 15% off of regular price by becoming a member. SONDER has places all over so if you travel frequently you should look into Sonder.

Likes: It was a great location, walking distance from bars and restaurants, the place was clean and the lobby was really nice Dislikes: our first room (101) was VERY SMALL, Is only for 1 persona maximum, and there was a problem in the bathroom that when we were in the shower the water came out, also the sink is very small, has little space to put stuff, there is only one coffe table in the room, they need to put another coffe table next to the bed and something in the bathroom to put personal stuff, room 101 was bigger but also the are is NOISY, the windows need to have something to isolate the noise from outside

Excellent Urban Location Overall it was great stay. The building is an old hotel that converted to a hostel that Sonder converted back into individual rooms. This particular room is on the corner of two major streets so there is a ton of traffic noise during the day and into the night. Saturday nights are the worst for noise because of both traffic and people who headed into the Gaslamp area. The noise didn’t bother me, but if you live in suburbia and are not used to noise at night then this is not the best room for you. If you drive, parking is also an issue. The proximity to the heart of the touristy areas is fantastic and the neighborhood is 100% walkable. Currently, San Diego has a massive homeless issue, and while I personally never felt unsafe, some people might have a different experience. There are two substantial homeless camps a couple blocks away, so you will see them and cross paths with them. The room itself was comfy and spacious. The bed was super comfortable with a great assortment of pillows in varying firmness. The coffee and microwave in the lobby are handy, and the room has a little dorm refrigerator which was perfect to keep leftovers or water/drinks cold. I would stay here again, but I’d probably try a different room if it included a weekend. I do feel like a good chunk of the exterior noise could be cut with the simple addition of some heavy blackout drapes.

Comfortable and easy! Very easy check in; comfortable room, beautiful bathroom with lovely shampoo conditioner and body wash. Great location, walking distance to gas lamp! I will say the coffee station could use some sugar free options! Like a few packs of Splenda, stevia, something. Sugar and creamer were the only options. And I need coffee to go get my coffee:)

Loved The Baker Amazing location, walking distance to restaurants and ballpark, felt really secure with constant security checking the property throughout the day, also nice cozy rooftop with fireplace to enjoy in the evening and catch golden hour

Not recommended. Likes: City centre location, but the noise was unbearable. Dislikes: The location is on a very busy crossroads and the hotel is kerb side.

Great Stay Such a lovely stay! I walked into the room and found a sweet note from the Sonder staff that made me feel so welcome. The bed was very comfy had a great night of rest. The shower pressure was amazing, and the shampoo and conditioner smelled so nice. The app is user-friendly. It was a seamless experience. I loved the help-yourself coffee station in the lobby and enjoyed a cup of joe by the cute fireplace. The Sonder was in a great location with easy access to lots of restaurants and shops. I will be back.

Once you get past the rather daunting identification process online including photos of the front and back of a government ID plus selfies from several angle, the rest is easy. The room was very spacious, clean and had comfortable beds with warm covers. The bathroom and shower was very clean and had double sinks and lots of room. The coffee in the lobby was excellent. Unfortunately, due to the nightlife in the area, it is fairly noisey until about midnight. We did like the coded doors on the lobby and room for security. Staff is nonexistant though.

Likes: Bus to Coronado Island (passing ferry terminal and Coronado Hotel) leaves just front of the Sonders Bakers.
