Perfect location, cute courtyard, clean, but not big on comfort, lots of little things add up to meh
Likes: The location is excellent. Very close to the French Quarter, but not in it. It's in Faubourg-Marigny, which is a great neighborhood. Frenchmen Street is full of music venues and restaurants, but the hotel itself was quiet. We were there when the weather was unusually cold, so we couldn't really take advantage of the (lovely) outdoor space, which is quintessential New Orleans. Clean - no issues with that. The comforter kept us warm; the sheets were soft and cozy. The check-in process was very clear on the app, and all the codes worked as promised.
Dislikes: The room was very small, which usually doesn't bother me, but It was badly designed, and you had to shimmy around the bed to get around. They did have plastic bumpers on the corners, but -- in what turned out to be typical -- they kept falling off. The room was also quite spare -- one chair to lounge in and a small plastic chair at a tiny desk. No counter space to speak of, except tiny little night tables, and no dresser (just a few hangers in an alcove). Personally, I found the bed itself much too soft and uncomfortable, and although the front desk person took me to see other rooms, they all seemed to have the same bed. The toilet only flushed every second or third flush, and the bathroom was tiny, with the toilet paper squeezed in such that it was awkward to access; you couldn't turn the light in the bathroom on without turning on the fan. Admittedly, it was chilly when we visited, but the pool was dirty and more importantly, the hot tub (which I was looking forward to) was either cold or lukewarm. The friendliness of the bot who kept texting me in advance did not carry through to the property, which was staffed with people who responded when asked, but clearly had no investment in the property or the guests (I'm guessing this is a result of mismanagement - not the staff). I miss the days of having an innkeeper or manager who welcomes you and makes you feel at home; without that, it felt cold, and the spareness of the room just added to that impression. It felt like nobody really put much care into making people comfortable, which made our our experience very meh. We stayed at this hotel almost three decades ago and were thrilled to see it was still in operation; I'm sure we changed, but the hotel also changed, and not for the better. Wasn't the right place for us, and if you go, get one of the bigger rooms.
