8/10 Very good
Cute, Quaint, and Friendly - Great Stay at the Frenchmen
The BF and I stayed at the Frenchmen with 2 other couples as part of a birthday celebration a few weeks ago.
The hotel is absolutely adorable, and very true to website pics. The courtyard area with pool and hot tub is cozy and beautiful. The rooftop bar is a great space to gather for pregaming before you go out or night caps when you get back. Nothing was going on up at the bar when we were there - I'm not sure if it's used for special events/occasions only, but it was nice to have the space.
We stayed in room 109 (petite queen), which would be perfect for 1, but a little snug for 2. While one of us was cleaning up, the other would hang by the pool and then we'd switch off. Sleeping was no problem, but 2 people in the room trying to get ready at the same time is a bit of an awkward dance. We always had hot water and the bed was very comfortable. Also, we LOVED the artwork in that room.
109 faces the courtyard and noise was never a problem for us. The only inconvenience was that the bathroom door didn't close completely - it would get stuck at the top. I contribute that to old architecture and humidity. It didn't bother me too much. The lock felt a bit flimsy, but it worked.
The continental breakfast was basic, but that's what continental breakfasts are. Coffee, milk, juice, cereal, fruit, etc. It was nice to be able to grab a little something before venturing out for the day.
Staff at the Frenchmen was awesome. For the most part, everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Shout out to Dave and Malcolm, who were particularly memorable.
Frenchmen Street itself was bustling - lots of little restaurants and shops, plus a great brewery right around the corner! Short walk from all the sights of Decatur and Bourbon Street, and the French Market is super close. TONS of live music here, as everyone else will tell you.
I think next time I would request a slightly larger room - maybe a deluxe queen - but I would absolutely stay here again and recommend the Frenchmen!
