Disappointed
Kasa Cadillac Square - Detroit– Less than one star.
I booked 3 months out for 8 nights. My work schedule changed, and I spent numerous phone calls with VRBO and Expedia six weeks before my arrival. I had no idea that Expedia did the billing for VRBO. I'm trying to get in touch with the right person to see if I can shorten my stay by two nights. I was finally able to reach the offices of Kasa Cadillac. They refused to reduce my booking.
My driver had a hard time finding the entrance due to the extensive construction in the streets and behind the building. Once inside the unit, it had power blinds, but there were no instructions on how to use them. I had to text the manager, and after a few tries, I was about to figure it out from just one remote. These blinds did very little to block out the light. I also noticed that the bathroom sink was backed up. It took them three days to repair the issue. The construction noise was deafening throughout our entire stay. Pounding and beeping equipment. The management had left a note by the bed that said, 'Sorry for the inconvenience. We have left you earplugs for the noise.' This was not disclosed in the booking information. And should have been, because it went on all week and into the night. This construction will be going on for several months, if not longer.
After returning from dinner the first night, I noticed several hoodlums and homeless people hanging out in front of the entrance and at the 7/11 Store that is right next door. Additionally, a makeshift metal detector system, similar to those used at concerts and theme parks, was in place, staffed by two police officers, but only on Friday and Saturday nights. I had to ask them what that was all about, and they said they routinely have them on weekends due to the high crime rate. Great. This was not disclosed.
The following morning, I went to the 7/11 to get some coffee, and on the way out, I was asked for money twice as I walked 15 feet to the lobby entrance.
That evening, I returned and stopped to buy something at the 7/11. The poor cashier was being harassed and yelled at by a grungy drunk.
Every night of the stay, a group of apparent drug dealers hung out just outside the 7/11 and on the other side of the entrance. The building had occasional security personnel inside the small lobby, but never outside. I think they were scared to be outside.
Two blocks up, Congress was fine, well lit, and safe. But never around the KASA Building.
There are numerous good and safe options in Downtown. You can do much better than Kasa Cadillac.
