I go to San Diego at least once a year, typically for a conference where I stay in the Gaslamp District. Usually, I'll stay at a Marriott or Hilton or Hyatt. I booked the Kasa last minute because I did not want to pay $600 - $1200 just for one night at a typical hotel. I was VERY skeptical as I know the area and saw where it was located.
I'll be honest, I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from the location being between 2 questionable bars/restaurants, everything worked out great and I enjoyed myself and felt safe. The noise was so-so as it is right above a bar with loud music, but I was there on a Tuesday night and it was fine (though they do provide earplugs, I do sleep with airpods on anyways and the noise didn't bother me). I read other reviews of folks complaining about the smell but did not experience any of that myself.
All in all, for the price and the location, I would recommend this place, with a caveat...it is good if you are staying solo. My wife and kids are used to much fancier accommodations. I'm fine with this type of place but did not bring the family. But if you're by yourself, great price, great location (if you like the nightlife), and nice accommodations.
Thanks Team Kasa!
