Unreasonable Charges and Unfair Treatment
Dislikes: This hotel was great—very clean, and communication was smooth—until the moment I checked out. I had a positive experience overall, but everything went downhill after I left.
On my first night, due to the dry and hot weather in Los Angeles, I had a nosebleed while sleeping and accidentally stained two pillows. It wasn’t intentional, and I only noticed the next morning. However, the hotel didn’t reach out to discuss the matter. Instead, they directly charged me $217 and even put me on their blacklist!
Let’s break this down:
1. Communication and Attitude:
The hotel never reached out to discuss this. They just went ahead, made their decision, and informed me via email in a way that made me feel like a terrible guest. While the email’s wording seemed polite on the surface, the tone made it clear they saw me as a careless, disruptive person. It’s incredibly disrespectful, especially since I’m someone who always tries to act responsibly.
2. Policies and Transparency:
The hotel accused me of violating their “stay policies” and “guest agreement.” But here’s the thing:
I booked through Booking.com, and there was NO mention of any such policies on the website.
Even if they claim the policies were introduced at check-in, how is that fair? By then, it was too late to cancel or get a refund. So I’m forced to “accept” terms I never agreed to when I made the booking? Ridiculous.
3. $217 for Two Pillows??
The hotel claims this charge reflects the replacement cost of the pillows. Let me tell you: these were the cheapest, flimsiest pillows you can imagine. No elasticity, no shape retention—honestly, just basic pillows. And they want me to believe they cost $217? Not a chance. Plus, both the hotel and I agree that the stains only affected the pillows, not the bed, the mattress, or anything else. So how on earth is this cost justified?
4. The Insurance Fee Mess:
When I checked in, I paid a one-time “insurance fee,” which I assumed would cover accidental damage like this.
