Stayed at Hotel Castro for the Sam Smith show at the Castro Theatre and honestly... obsessed! First off, the location is perfect and right in the heart of the Castro, so you're steps away (so close to the Theatre) from everything but it still feels easy and comfortable to come back and relax. The vibe of the hotel is super welcoming, super stylish without trying too hard, and just has a cool energy. They play chill electronic music in the lobby and on the roof which actually compliment the vibe quite nicely. The room was clean, cozy, and thoughtfully put together. Not huge, but perfect for what you need.. and the bed? Slept like a dream on the utopia cloud matress. You can tell they actually care about the details, which I always notice. The host was friendly and cool in a genuine way (not that robotic hotel fakery), and they made everything feel smooth from check-in to check-out. Also... let's be real, the energy of the area + the hotel (and rooftop!) just makes the whole experience feel awesome. Most highly recommend. Will absolutely be staying here everytime we find ourselves in the bay.

Likes: Location, Location, Location. Also the Google home, the bed, the shower and the balcony. Dislikes: The door took too long to lock when you leave. Otherwise I don’t have to much to complain about

The Castro Hotel was the perfect place to stay--convienent, easy, and very comfortable. Ignore the reviews that mention the virtual front desk. It is very simple, well communicated, and absolutely no hassle. The room is cosy with everything that you would need to stay in a city with great food right on your doorstep. The location can't be beat and the price is much better than others in the area.

Stayed at Hotel Castro recently and had such a lovely experience overall. The rooftop firepit was definitely a highlight, such a cozy spot to unwind in the evening and enjoy the atmosphere. It really adds to the charm of the property. The room itself was amazing, with beautiful boutique-style artwork that made it feel unique and thoughtfully designed. My boyfriend and I also used the poker chip perk, and he grabbed a delicious drink from the lobby bar connected to the hotel, which was a fun touch. We were especially impressed by the personal details. Ryan, who I believe is the hotel manager, left us a handwritten welcome card. You don't see that often anymore (usually it's pre-printed), so it felt very genuine and welcoming. And honestly, his penmanship was better than mine! The balcony was another favorite, quaint, quiet, and the perfect place to sip my morning Nespresso (which is conveniently provided in the room). Overall, it was a smooth, comfortable stay with a modern feel and thoughtful touches throughout. Would absolutely stay here again.

The entire check-in process was handled virtually, which meant no waiting in line or dealing with a traditional front desk. Accessing the building and room with secure PIN codes was smooth and convenient, and I really appreciated how efficient everything felt. I also liked that Kasa and the hotel are very upfront about not having on-site parking. That transparency goes a long way, and they made up for it by providing multiple nearby parking options, which made planning easy. Overall, this is , well-run property that blends convenience, comfort, and thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a hassle-free stay in San Francisco.

Okay, let me just say—we LOVED this place. The location? 10/10. Right in the Castro area restaurants, bars, and nightlife all basically at your doorstep. No Ubers needed, just walk out and have a night. The room itself was cute & honestly perfect for what we needed. The bed? So comfortable we didn’t want to get up (but… Castro brunch was calling). Yes, the room is a little on the smaller side, but they do offer larger ones if you’re bringing half your closet with you. Parking can be a little “city vibes” (aka limited at times), but we never had an issue finding something close, so no complaints there. Now, just keeping it real—storage space is a bit tight and there’s no microwave, but you do get a mini fridge which came in handy. Nothing that would stop us from booking again. And the host? Amazing. Super responsive helpful and on it with anything we needed which always makes a stay that much better. All in all perfect spot, amazing location, great vibes. We’d absolutely stay again

What a fantastic play to stay in The Castro! Beautiful, clean, cozy and surrounded by amazing restaurants. 10/10! Loved the bathroom, the bed was super cozy and having the Nespresso machine was an amazing touch.

The most frustrating part of my experience was being incorrectly charged $660.65 after already paying $296.53 through Booking.com -- and the issue has still not been resolved despite multiple follow-ups. Being charged for what appears to be someone else's stay is completely unacceptable. Beyond that, the room was extremely small and did not meet expectations. Cleanliness was also a concern, as the space felt poorly maintained. Check-in was unnecessarily difficult and frustrating, which only added to an already negative experience. Between the billing error, lack of resolution, poor cleanliness, and difficult check-in process, I would not stay here again and would not recommend this property.

Easy coming and going. Handy location

Awful. I didn't have a code with me upon arrival. I was put on hold for 30 mins trying to sort everything out. Helpfully, someone let me in, or otherwise, I would have been trying to get the code outside on the street. I was tired and had an event to go in an hour and a half and in the end, had no time to get ready. It was THE most frustrating experience trying to get into my hotel room and it wasn't even that deluxe. The neighborhood is great because it's the Castro but going through kasa is not it. It is a bad airbnb service in the end. And it's non-refundable after 24 hours of booking. No No No.

I would recommend this building, know that the Castro is back to heavy party-ing and I love it but didn't expect it. It a party location. I also, got two twin beds, I made it work, but recommend confirming with them. I did ask for an upper floor so make that is why but if you are a couple that might not be a good choice. The room is really beautiful but is moist so by 6AM I felt the moisture but hey that is just me. The linens are wonderful, I didn't need to bring my own pillow and you shouldn't either. Free water, a snack and great wifi. Highly recommend otherwise. And don't leave anything behind, its 60.00 to get it back. I left my Sonicare, toothbrush. Such a bummer. Great finishes and balcony, I was in the back over the other restaurants but still loved having it. My dog appreciate it also.

The space is incredibly clean and quiet despite being located in such a lively district and I noticed that the digital check in process is very efficient and modern for travelers who appreciate a seamless and independent experience. It is a must visit for any traveler who values high quality amenities and a sophisticated atmosphere that still feels very connected to the history and the community of the surroundings. I also appreciated the proximity to so many amazing restaurants and cafes because you can easily explore the best of the local dining scene just by walking a few blocks from the front door. Even though it is a smaller hotel the sense of privacy and the luxury finishes in the bathroom and living areas make it feel like a high end retreat. I will definitely be returning here soon because the combination of the prime location and the beautiful interior design is truly unbeatable for a memorable visit.

My Castr-home away from home. Fantastic experience. Great location. Very responsive host. Excellent location. Super nice grocery store right across the street. Beautiful deck/fire pit on the top floor. Upscale, delightful little bar right next door. Walkable to everywhere in the Castro. My room was small but it more than met my needs and once I found my rhythm here (door codes, distilled water dispenser in the lobby, room amenities, etc, I came to love my little flat. The best part is that the room I stayed in had a private balcony. Sat out there and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. You should know that there’s only street parking (if you have a car - no dedicated parking), if you want maid service you have to let them know by 9am same day, and everything is done virtually. The reception and assistance is all done virtually. None of this was an issue for me, but just a heads up.

The room is in a great location in the Castro. So much to do and see. I did not realize how small the room was but it was fine for just me and my cousin. It had a balcony with chairs which we enjoyed. The bar downstairs was closed unfortunately but there are plenty of bars close by. I wish there were good parking nearby because we thought we parked legally but there was a ticket for over a hundred dollars the next day. Overall the room was excellent and we loved it. Absolutely 10/10 would recommend to anyone and totally worth the price. Everything was nearly perfect from the location, cleanliness, safety, amenities, hospitality, check in/out instructions and overall communication. Nice location

Small but surprisingly comfy rooms well equipped with nice details and small outside deck. Decks on higher rooms have a view and would be more desirable. Response from management was always prompt.

Room was a little small and there was no space on one side of the bed and it was against the wall and the other side only have 8-12” of space so that felt very crowded, it otherwise the space was lovely.

Important: Kasa makes you complete identity verification on their own platform (even though you've already gone through that on Airbnb). Do this right away, before your trip! A different guest was stuck outside because they were getting an error in the identity verification flow -- ultimately they had to leave and go get a new hotel (at their own expense). That's a real bummer! Would be ideal if they had at least one person at the hotel in person to help guests troubleshoot. Other than that, I had a nice stay. It was easy to check-in, and customer support was quick to text back (as I tried to help the other guest). The room was nice, great amenities, good local recommendations. Perfect for a quick work trip!

No staff on site. The automation means you’re paying significantly more and getting significantly less — no flexibility on checkin or checkout time, can’t drop off your bag early, nobody to ask for recommendations or help, no lobby or common area (there’s a hotel bar but you have to exit the hotel and walk down to enter another door to get there), and all the human niceties are going to be packaged and sold back to you as extra charges in the range of hundreds of dollars (they were going to ask $100+ for early checkin)

Loved the experience from booking to checkout. The check-in instructions were very clear and easy to follow, which made arrival seamless.The room was nicely appointed with a fun, stylish vibe. Everything felt thoughtful and well done. My only small note is that the mattress could have been a bit more comfortable—but that didn’t take away from an otherwise excellent stay.The hotel is in a great, accessible location, and next time I’m in San Francisco I would absolutely consider staying here again.

Horrible experience! Fiancé and I were in town for a show and arrived at the hotel with plenty of time to spare. While trying to check-in with an AI process, we could not check in because my fiancés driver license expired a few days earlier on her bday and the system would not recognize the temp. license from DMV. The room was prepaid and the hotel was fully booked. There was no on-site staff to assist and we missed our show trying to cancel the room and re-book under my name. This process took hours!! Terrible process, horrible service AND there's absolutely no excuse for this B.S. I want my money back!!! Avoid this place!! Plenty of better hotels in the city! Hey Demi R, after re-contacting the hotel as noted in the response to my aforementioned review, still no resolution! The call attendant related they had to forward my concerns to management. Maybe "management" could read my review and understand the issue, before I have to keep re-telling this unfortunate and painful experience without resolution!
