STILE is not maintained as a four-star hotel, at least not my room on floor 8. Honestly, it should be demoted if my room is representative. It's a neat place, but it's rough around the edges and frankly doesn't come close to four-star expectations. I rarely leave negative reviews.
Issues with my 2-night stay in a premium room:
1) Greeted by stained and delaminated room carpet that should have been replaced long ago as soon as you walk into the room. -Carpet that would make you feel uneasy at a roadside motel...see photos:
2) The period large double-hung windows are really cool but pretty much impossible to fully seat/close the upper halves, resulting in unnecessary sound intrusion.
3) Taking a shower outside of typical hours resulted in lukewarm showers at night; there's probably not enough hot water flowing through the buildings pipes to get a hot shower after 11:00 p.m...keep in mind...
4) During my stay an entire circuit branch mysteriously shut off indefinitely, and it was not a GFCI protected branch. I could deal without the outlets but let staff know so it could be addressed before the next tenant.
5) The back elevator keypad entry often did not accept my number sequence multiple times in a row, making for a frustrating first journey to the room after long travels. I was not the only person finding it unreliable.
6) This is picky, but the smallish TVs are 720p and not full HD or better. Again, this would be a common TV at a 2.5-star facility... Your mobile phone has much higher resolution.
There's a lot of things to like about this place (the staff was really nice, the bed is very supportive, materials/surfaces/interior appointments are mostly quite nice, for example), but my experience at four-star hotels is usually pretty stellar with attention to detail that goes way beyond this. This place needs some refinement and desperately needs carpet (or to go carpet-less) before it should be honored as a 4-star property. If this was 3-star, this review would be slightly more forgiving, but it's an honest critique.
