Friendly Staff but Creepy Noise Alerts & Odd Police Presence
I stayed at this hotel for two nights with family and friends while visiting Detroit. The location is fantastic — walking distance to downtown, the waterfront, restaurants, shopping, and bars. The front desk and hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made check-in and getting oriented in the city a breeze.
That said, there were a few serious concerns. During our first hour in the room, my friend and I received a message saying that the noise sensors in our room indicated we were too loud — despite only having a normal conversation. We later realized the room had multiple noise sensors, which felt unusual and unsettling. The following day, even with more people in the room at similar conversation levels, there were no alerts, so it seemed inconsistent and clearly the weird sensors were broken.
Additionally, the shower had noticeable ceiling damage, which was concerning given the cost of the stay — $750 for two nights felt high for the experience.
Outside the hotel, we encountered aggressive panhandling, which was uncomfortable, and there was a strong police presence around the building both nights. The combination of these factors made the area feel a bit uneasy despite the central location. The presence of the police made it feel very unsafe I would not recommend staying here.
Overall, while the staff and location were excellent, I would recommend caution and hope the management addresses the noise sensors and room maintenance issues.
